Unless you’re totally dependent on delivery or eating out, you’re likely going to spend a significant amount of time in front of the oven preparing meals for your family. But while you’re certainly aware of the obvious risks involved in cooking, you’re less likely to worry about possible carbon monoxide poisoning when popping cookies or casseroles. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) recently announced a voluntary recall of nearly 28,000 ZLINE ovens following reports of carbon monoxide leaks. Did. Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Best Buy sold these ovens between 2019 and 2022.
According to a Dec. 29 announcement, the recall affects the oven compartment of ZLINE 30″ and 36″ RG gas ranges (stove and oven combos that use natural gas), specifically model numbers RG30, RGS-30, RGB- 30, RG36, RGS-36, and RGB-36.
All models have these numbers printed on a label on the back of the range, and for 2020 and newer models, the model number will also be printed on the bottom right label on the top of the range. CPSC said.
Gas ranges were sold in-store and online at leading retailers nationwide, including Best Buy, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Range Hood Store, and online at Build with Ferguson, Costco, Overstock, and Wayfair. Prices ranged from $2,300 to $5,000 and were available from February 2019 to December 2022, according to CPSC.
The leak has forced some consumers to seek medical attention.
According to the CPSC notice, as of December 29, ZLINE had received 44 reports of carbon monoxide emissions from oven compartments. In three cases, the consumer had to see a doctor.
The company’s recall page reads, “At ZLINE, the safety of our customers and families has always been (and always will be) a top priority.” “ZLINE states that some gas-on-gas range oven components can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO) during use and pose a significant risk of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning. I am aware of something.”
Of even greater concern, according to the CPSC, carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, and you may not even know you’ve been exposed. However, headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, and dizziness can be signs of low to moderate carbon monoxide poisoning. More severe cases cause symptoms such as confusion, vomiting, loss of muscle coordination, loss of consciousness, and even death.
With these concerns in mind, the CPSC is asking consumers to “immediately stop using the recalled range of oven compartments until a free repair is available.” This ensures that you can continue to use your range top unaffected by the carbon monoxide problem.
