It’s been 30 years since the formation of the rock band Bush. How was the North American tour with Alice In Chains and Breaking Benjamin?
23 hours and you’re thinking, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this, this tour is too long’. And you put on the show and it’s really fun and you’re like, “This is great!”
The venue is really beautiful. It seats about 10,000 people and has a lawn so it’s great for dogs to run around.
But I have a lot of kids, so it was really selfish to leave them in September.
How old are your children?
ok daisy [Lowe] Fully grown. As she herself says, she is a woman. Three boys he is 16, 14 and 8 years old and is into sports. I came back over the weekend to make practice matches and dinner.
Does your child criticize your music?
they have big opinions. Back then, when I first had boys, they asked me if I had written any songs about them and it scared me.
Daisy just got engaged [to estate agent Jordan Saul] I played some music to her fiancée when she, my future son-in-law, was in Los Angeles.
It must be terrifying for a fiancée to see his rock star dad.
yeah, it could have gone the other way. He’s an up-and-coming amateur fighter, so I think he just likes strength. I don’t know what else he likes, but I’m so excited about him because he’s a really nice guy.
Bush music history. What was it like to be a part of the harrowing Woodstock ’99 Netflix documentary?
It was a little hair raising. I was in London during the heyday of Britpop, making records, and I stopped by to do Woodstock.
We lived in a bubble and hadn’t heard much about this nu metal. Korn and Limp Bizkit exploded after them.
They responded to a really frustrated American youth. I didn’t receive the memo.
“Hendrix played Woodstock. We respect that. We have to come together. We are one.”
Do you think you have learned from your mistakes?
I think I’m much smarter and less self-destructive. I was pretty good at it. It’s something that comes with a little maturity. I mean, I’m still in a band, so I definitely still have a foot in being needy, immature, and ridiculous.
You talked about the Queen on stage. have you met her?
At one point in my life, I had a stepfather who was a sportsman. We were at an event and saw the Queen from across the room. I was like, “Oh shit, there’s a queen!”
There was a frisson. She was standing with her bag. She didn’t do anything, but she was the backbone for all of us.It’s been a very emotional time these days.
Wasn’t your sister Lorraine the events manager for Westminster Abbey’s funerals?
Yes, my sister planned it! you’re welcome. Her team is like her SAS. They are ready to wait. She did it and it was really good.
Speaking of music legends, what is this cooking show pilot you filmed with Sir Tom Jones?
It took me 3 years to make this. I was basically looking for a way to be more at home for my boys.
I found the US talk show “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” to be as exciting and interesting as “Dinner For Five”. I’m not Jamie Oliver.
I’m an idiot musician. But what I can do is put together a meal that looks and tastes good. We have an Instagram page.

Bush supported David Bowie in South America and you remained friends. Was Superstar emailing you?
Yes, he has done so over the years.i never thought i was [music’s] Premier division, but definitely been in a space with intermittent good connections.
He was such a wonderful person and really funny. he was everything you could want.
Your track Bullet Holes worked well with John Wick 3. Any plans to work with Keanu Reeves?
Oddly enough, the martial arts stunt coordinator I worked with Keanu on 2005’s Constantine was Chad Stahelski, who directed all the John Wick movies.
So it was a real pleasure to reconnect with him. Now I hear they’re doing Constantine 2. I hope they want to bring my character Balthazar back from the dead.
