A local business got a new leasing opportunity – or does it have to be a leash?
Bemidji’s Pets Plus has been a staple in pet care and products for almost 30 years and recently changed owners. But despite developments, the joy of running a local business stayed with the family.
After running Pets Plus in Bemidji, Chris Joy took over the business from his parents, the previous owners, in August of this year. Although it wasn’t in Joy’s plans in the first place, Joy soon found himself taking on the role of manager of his family business. Now, this same enthusiasm is reflected in his Pets Plus ownership.
However, in addition to the height of nearly 30 years of family-run business, there are some challenges to staying in business locally, such as recent record inflation. As daunting as seeing the price tag rise may be, after 15 years at Pets Plus, Joy was able to find the good in his new role.
Despite the price increase, Joy aims to maintain the same customer experience that Pets Plus has provided to the Bemidji community for the past 30 years. He also plans to introduce new services to new and old customers, such as in-store dog food mixing.
Throughout October, Pets Plus will also feature North Winds branded foods. Pets Plus donates a can of dog food to the food shelf for every can he buys.
