Dell reportedly acquired cloud orchestration company Cloudify for an estimated $100 million to dent its own cloud services business and make it even more appealing to organizations investing in DevOps.
This is an interesting move, as Dell has offloaded its portfolio of software companies over the past few years, including those with cloud skills. Quest Software, which includes assets from both SonicWall and its predecessor Dell Quest Software, was sold in his 2016, while the Boomi unified platform was sold in 2021, as was cloud and virtualization giant VMware.
The Texas tech maker has not officially announced the acquisition, but an unnamed source provided details to TechCrunch.
“Dell Technologies has announced that it has completed its acquisition of Cloudify,” a Dell spokesperson was quoted as saying. “This transaction allows Dell to continue innovating in Edge products.”
Additionally, Form S-8 [PDF] The “Cloudify Platform Ltd. 2017 Share Incentive Plan” titled “Cloudify Platform Ltd. 2017 Share Incentive Plan” filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been revealed. Dell has also created its own Apex-as-a-service portfolio of managed infrastructure services including servers, storage, networking and more. The company has expanded these with select multi-cloud capabilities over the last year, including data services that provide file, block, object, and data protection services across all major public clouds, and continues to add more. .
Jeff Boudreau, president of Dell’s Infrastructure Solutions Group, previously said the multi-cloud reality is complex, with data becoming distributed across on-premises, multiple public clouds and edge data centers. All of this puts Dell in a unique position and our customers a multi-cloud strategy.”
We asked Dell for more details about its Cloudify acquisition and how it fits into its multi-cloud strategy. I will update when I have enough answers.®
