The School of Design’s Sue and Leon Genet Gallery at the Nancy Cantor Warehouse is proud to announce “Footwear by the School of Design Alumni” on display through March 3rd. The school’s Industrial and Interactive Design (IID) program.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, was organized by Don Carr and Carmel Nicoletti, faculty members of the Faculty of Design. The reception he will be held on Friday, February 24th from 6-8pm.

The design school at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts has a long history of alumni working in the footwear industry, and this exhibition showcases the experiences, philosophies and approaches to footwear design of these talented designers.
Current IID students were tasked with researching and interviewing participating alumni to inform the creation of shoeboxes meant to reflect each designer’s personality and process.

The new exhibition “Footwear by Design School Graduates” features the work of over 20 designers representing over 50 years of graduates of the school’s industrial and interaction design programs.
Included are product examples ranging from athletic gear to designer shoes to space capsule mission-specific equipment. Designers represent a wide industry network of brands such as Nike, New Balance, Clarks and Under Armour.
“The industrial design program at Syracuse was formative in forming my professional foundation,” says participating designer Matt Heller ’98, Peloton New York City’s He claims to be Senior Director of Accessories and Footwear.
“My classmates and I have been lucky enough to have an amazingly diverse and complementary design faculty at our fingertips. It brings an entirely different and valuable perspective to the program.”
