For the first time in over a year, traditional gas car owners saved more money on the pump than electric car owners, according to a consulting firm.
Fuel costs for most internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in the final quarter of 2022 will be relatively cheaper than charging electric vehicles (EVs) after exorbitant gasoline prices dropped late last year, says Anderson Economic Group. analyst (AEG) said.

AEG’s cost analysis looked at basic energy costs for gas, diesel and electric, road taxes and fees, additional costs to operate a pump or EV charger, and the cost to drive to a fuel station. Costs were calculated for vehicles traveling 12,000 miles per year.

Americans struggling to pay for their car are the highest since the Great Recession
The analysis found that in the fourth quarter of 2022, a typical mid-range gasoline driver paid about $11.29 for 100 miles of driving. That’s about 31 cents cheaper than a mid-range electric car driver charging at home, and more than $3 cheaper than his equivalent EV driver charging at a gas station.
Experts say unless you’re driving an expensive luxury electric car, you’ll be losing money charging your car instead of paying for gas.
