st. clouds (WJON News) — Two more older sections of the former St. Cloud Technical High School will be demolished in the coming months.
At its Monday night meeting, the St. Cloud City Council approved the demolition, reduction and renovation of the 1955 and 1975 additions to the building.
Mayor Dave Krice This work has always been included in the city’s plans, and it will be the final piece to complete the new City Hall project.
He said the addition would be a strain on the energy system and would also allow future economic growth for the facility, so removal is necessary.
Demo work is scheduled to begin this spring and is expected to be completed by early summer. The area will then become green space until a developer is found.
This portion of the project will cost over $2.7 million. The winning bid went to Landwehr Construction.
City council member George Hontos asked for a spreadsheet of the city’s total cost of moving city hall to the former technical high school. Kleis said the cost would be about $15 million.
The adjoining former school’s media center is also on the market, and the city is looking to sell the property to help pay for the costs.
In March 2022, the city moved its offices into the building.
