Activists outraged by the shooting death of a 36-year-old double amputee demanded justice and accountability on Monday. CBS Los Angeles Report.

Police and Anthony Rowe Jr.’s family held a press conference to announce Rowe’s death.

“He was loved,” said his cousin Ellaquenyada Golm, sobbing. He was in a wheelchair, what more could he do? What more could he do?”

Lowe’s mother also spoke at a press conference held outside Huntington Park Police Station.

“They murdered my son in a wheelchair with no legs,” Dorothy Rowe said. “They need to do something about it.”

A spokesperson for the family said both Lowe’s legs had been amputated at the knee.

Police said they received a call that the man had been stabbed by another man in a wheelchair. Officers said they found Lowe holding a 12-inch butcher knife when they arrived at the scene.

Video captured by a passerby shows Lowe getting out of her wheelchair and using her arms to follow the ground, trying to escape police.

In a statement, the department said officers attempted to taser Lowe twice, but to no avail.

Police said Lowe continued to threaten officers with a knife, leading to the fatal shooting.

Lowe’s family said he was in a wheelchair and did not pose a threat and needs further responses from law enforcement.

“You guys knew your lives weren’t in danger. ‘He’s running on his limbs. How ruthless can they be?’

Gorham also said the family had received little to no communication from the department or the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which are assisting with the investigation.
