MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake-Othello Association of Realtors held its annual banquet on Saturday, July 21st. The award recognizes community members and real estate professionals in five categories.
Jeanie Austin Cook, a member of the Moms Helping Moms Facebook group in Grant County, Washington and who happens to be a receptionist at the Columbia Basin Herald, was honored as Citizen of the Year.
Austin Cook said, “I’m humbled and honored. ‘I was a little taken aback because what I’m doing is not acceptable.'”
Austin-Cook was named by Allison May of Better Homes and Gardens Gary Mann Real Estate for her work in the community.
Austin-Cook set up an online support group, she said, and is pleased that online activity has spread throughout Grant County. This includes a gift campaign that her group of about 3,000 has been doing for over four years. During the 2022 drive, the group was able to provide Christmas gifts to nearly 200 children in the area.
“This group is successful because it has a community. This group has opened our eyes to the needs of many people. It’s a way for people who can help connect without having to worry about it,” said Austin-Cook.
Mothers Helping Mothers in Grant County are also open to fathers who can use their hands. Selling in online groups is prohibited, but gifts and soliciting help and advice are permitted.
