Chunghwa Telecom Unveils 2023 CapEx-Driven Strategy

Chunghwa Telecom said it will focus on sustainability + 5G + innovative transformation as its core strategy for 2023.

Chi-Mau Sheih, Chairman and CEO of Chunghwa Telecom, said:

Chunghwa Telecom accelerates the expansion of 5G enterprise private networks and develops 5G smart applications with enterprise partners to boost mobile business revenue and ICT business growth.

Chunghwa Telecom’s strategy is to leverage fixed broadband quality to enhance speed upgrades and multi-play services to enhance user experience and maintain the growth potential of fixed broadband business.

In terms of video services, Chunghwa Telecom will increase investment in MOD content and work with Hami Video to meet diverse viewing needs, increase customer numbers and ARPU, and drive revenue growth for the entire video business.

Chunghwa Telecom aims to reach NT$221.27 ~ NT$222.79 billion in 2023, aiming to increase revenue by 2.1-2.8%.

Revenue growth is expected to be driven by increased mobile communications revenues, broadband access revenues and data communications revenues, as well as gains from growing emerging businesses in the digital economy.

According to Chunghwa Telecom, operating expenses in 2023 are expected to be NT$176.59 ~ NT$177.29 billion, an increase of NT$6.60 ~ NT$7.30 billion (3.9% ~ 4.3%) over the previous year. The increase was primarily due to higher investment costs in human resources and infrastructure to support future business development in core and emerging businesses.

Chunghwa Telecom said it will make capital expenditures of NT$35.31 billion in 2023 to keep its 5G network competitive and capture emerging business opportunities. As future business opportunities, Chunghwa Telecom aims to expand Internet data centers, construct new submarine cables, and develop FTTH.
