State-owned Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd (SCCL), in addition to its core business of coal mining, has diversified into thermal and solar power, with its first floating solar power plant at the Singareni Thermal Power Station (STPS) in Jaipur. SCCL is installing a 15 MW (AC)/19.5 MW (DC) floating solar power plant on the STPS reservoir. In the first phase, a 5 MW floating solar power plant was commissioned and synchronized. A second phase of 10 MW will be commissioned by the end of March.

The 5 MW(AC)/6.5 MW(DC) floating solar plant was implemented by Novus Green Energy Systems, headquartered in Hyderabad. Novus Green’s managing director, Anshuman Yenigalla, said:

Novus Green implemented end-to-end manufacturing and built a 5 MW floating PV plant through its in-house team and manufacturing facility. The solar panels used in the factory were manufactured at our facility in India. Indian company FloatVolt provided the floating board.

“This project faced several challenges, such as designing and manufacturing a floating board that met all test criteria, and securing the frameless glass-to-glass module to the floating board. IIT), making it the first floating solar project to be vetted by an institution as prestigious as the IIT.”
