Armani Spring/Summer 2023 Collection Celebrates Annual Venetian Carnival
In the notes of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Giorgio Armani unveiled his Prive Haute Couture collection “Rondò Armaniano”, lighting up the second day of Paris Haute Couture Week 2023. You must have felt transported to the enchanting era of Italian Baroque.
Armani seems to have been an early adopter of the Venetian carnival dance, with a collection dedicated to the characters of the Commedia dell’Arte, a form of Italian theater popular in the 16th to 18th centuries. Her model is seen wearing pantaloon knee breeches embellished with a sequined waistline and a voluminous ruffled collar in pulcinella, which also adapts to the corset construction.
Among them, Harlequin’s signature checkered costume became a major pattern in the collection.Rhombuses were used as motifs for skirts and pants, and were expressed in shades such as peony pink, emerald green, and cobalt. It has been transformed into see-through gowns, fishnet jackets, gilets and more.
As the models walked down the runway, spectators were immersed in a veritable celebration of the glamorous Rococo style. The “exaggeration” character (typical of the time) is represented by Armani’s excessive attention to detail. From bulky bracelets to pendants to his earrings, handbags and even shoulder straps, everything works in harmony to represent the infinite possibilities of Harlequin diamonds in his shape.
