Organizations adopting the latest release of Db2 Web Query will find new graphical designer features, automated insight generation capabilities that use machine learning, and data migration tools to help customers move their data to cloud data warehouses. You can find new features and more. ability.
Db2 Web Query is IBM’s flagship business intelligence offering for the IBM i platform. This software is based on WebFOCUS, a BI offering developed by Information Builders, with whom IBM has been an OEM since 2007. In 2021, Information Builders was acquired by TIBCO Software, which continues its partnership with IBM.
On October 11th, as part of a technology refresh for IBM i 7.4 and 7.5, IBM announced Db2 Web Query Version 2.4. The new release, shipping December 16th, supports IBM i 7.4 and 7.5 and brings many new features.
A graphical designer that allows users to develop data visualizations and dashboards, which IBM debuted in version 2.3, received a lot of attention in this release. IBM says the new features “bridge the gap” between Designer and his InfoAssist, the traditional ad-hoc query tool that has been part of Db2 Web Query for years.
Version 2.4 Standard Edition brings other new features, including the new Automated Insights feature that can automatically find statistically relevant correlations, trends, and anomalies buried in your data .
Automated Insights uses pre-built machine learning models, eliminating the need to hire expensive data scientists to build models. This software helps answer the following questions: You can build visualizations that not only identify patterns and anomalies, but highlight them.
Another standard feature enhanced in version 2.4 is customized portal functionality. According to IBM, this feature will allow users to create custom his portals or homepages for different departments or user communities within an organization. IBM says this simplifies navigation to the reports and dashboards that groups use most.
This release also enhances the DataMigrator ETL component of the product used to build data pipelines that move data from source systems to data warehouses. With this release, IBM will allow users to stream Db2 for i data to cloud databases or cloud services such as his AWS Redshift and Snowflake cloud data warehouses.
New DataMigrator features give users greater control over the data they want to move, including the ability to extract files and tables, transform them in some way, and then load them into their target destinations. A user can also use her DataMigrator to merge Db2 for i data with his non-IBM sources such as data in SQL Server tables and spreadsheets.
DataMigrator for i was originally developed to load data into Db2 for i, but the rapid growth and maturity of cloud data warehouses has forced Doug Mack, IBM Systems Labs Services Consultant, IBM i Shop, Db2 Web Query Product owner) IT jungle Earlier this year.
In this case, DataMigrator can act as a bridge between rapidly changing transactional data and analytical databases used to extract actionable insights. According to Mack, DataMigrator leverages change data capture (CDC) for data extraction and also leverages Apache Kafka as an internet-based message bus feeds his tables in the data warehouse.
IBM has added geospatial capabilities to Db2 for i in this release. These geospatial features have not yet surfaced in the Db2 for i client, but are candidates for future releases, according to IBM Product Managers.
