Is the Citi Promo a Good Deal?
Earning more points is always a plus, but using an issuer’s travel portal is not usually the best way to book travel. The Citi Travel portal is run by Booking.com, a third-party platform. Most hotels will not honor elite status or allow you to earn points or elite night credit for reservations on third-party bookings like this.
This promo gets more interesting if you hold a card like the Citi Premier® Card. Pairing the Custom Cash with the Citi Premier® Card, you can combine the points and use them with over 15 airline and hotel transfer partners. Transferring points to an airline or hotel to book travel directly is often where you’ll get the most value from your points.
At the end of the day, if you max out this promo along with the ongoing category bonus, you’ll earn an additional 4,500 points each billing cycle through the end of the promotion. That’s 9 points per dollar on the $500 spending limit per billing cycle.
