In Wellfound’s free plan, you get free job posts, candidate sourcing, templates, applicant tracking and scheduling.
Job Posting
As an employer, you can post a job in Wellfound to begin tapping into its global network of eight million job seekers. When we set up our account and chose the “Post a Job” option, it was a matter of entering the job title, job description, desired years of experience, location and more.
Candidate Sourcing
You can search Wellfound’s database of talent by applying filters by location, time zone, skills and work experience. Wellfound will even display a candidate’s job search status to help you gauge their interest in finding a new job.
The search function in Wellfound Recruit presents you with its own curated lists of candidates in the following broad categories:
- Full-stack engineer
- Product manager
- Software engineer
- User interface/user experience (UI/UX) designer
You can select the star icon next to any of these lists to easily return to them later, especially as you save more of your own searches. When conducting a search, it saves it as a new search automatically, which might be a nuisance if you don’t want to save every search you perform in Wellfound’s database.
By clicking on any of Wellfound’s curated lists or one of your own saved searches, you see a list of candidates and a preview of their experience, what they’re looking for and more. They’re ranked starting with those who are the best match for your job. Additionally, each list is separated into active candidates—those actively applying for jobs—and passive candidates—who are currently employed but might be open to a new job if the offer is compelling enough.
We like that you can click on any one candidate and their profile expands rather than taking you to a new tab or window. You have the option of clicking “Not interested” or “Request to chat.”
Templates
Wellfound Recruit enables you to create templates “Accept,” “Reject” and email templates. “Accept” and “Reject” templates, as the names suggest, are for accepting and rejecting inbound applications, respectively. However, the “Accept” template isn’t meant for accepting an application for review. Rather, it’s used to relay to the candidate that you like what you see and that you’ll reach out soon to coordinate the next step of the hiring process.
In addition, the email template is to communicate with candidates via email throughout the applicant tracking process, whether that’s through Wellfound’s own ATS or via integration with a different ATS.
If you upgrade to Recruit Pro, you have access to creating a pitch template. A pitch template is for reaching out to candidates that you’re interested in who you want to apply for your openings.
It was easy to get to the Templates section of Wellfound because it was displayed prominently on the dashboard. However, you can also access templates by clicking on the gear icon that takes you to your settings.
Applicant Tracking
Wellfound has its own ATS—formerly called Track—that can be found under the ATS tab of the main menu. It enables you to oversee where candidates are at in the hiring process and customize the order and names of stages. You have to first post a job to be able to see how Wellfound’s ATS works. Otherwise, you can integrate Wellfound for free with the Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever or Workable ATSes.
Candidate Messaging
You can message candidates and applicants but it’s unclear how many messages you can send and receive under the free Access plan and the Essentials plan. The Pro plan, for example, includes unlimited messaging.
Scheduling
Wellfound Recruit has a scheduling feature in Beta in which you can connect Wellfound to your Google calendar, select your availability and get a shareable scheduling link to share with candidates.
