LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – Forbes magazine has released the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans. Arkansas has five names for her on the list.
Topping the Arkansas list and No. 10 on the Forbes list is Jim Walton with $57.9 billion, up one spot from 2021. Walton is the son of Walmart founder Sam Walton and chairman of Bentonville-based Arbest Bank. Forbes reports that he and his sister Alice are leading a program to issue $300 million in bonds for charter schools to invest in facilities.
Rob Walton is the second-largest Arkansas state with a net worth of $56.7 billion. The retired Walmart chairman is the eldest son of Sam Walton. He is also his 12th name on the Forbes 400 list. In June, Walton headed the NFL’s Denver group where he agreed to buy the Broncos for his $4.7 billion. This is a record price for a sports franchise.
Sam Walton’s heirs own about half of all Walmart shares, Forbes reports. Sam’s only daughter, Alice Walton, has a net worth of $55.7 billion, which ranks him 15th on the Forbes 400. Texas resident Alice’s name is not included in the Arkansas list. The Forbes 400 list includes a total of seven members of Walton-her family.
Jonel Hunt is number three on the Arkansas list with a net worth of $4.2 billion. Her wealth helped her and her late husband sell her home in 1961, and later she funded JB Hunt her transport service (one of her largest shipping companies in the country). It comes from giving. She donated her $5 million to the JB and Jonel Hunt Family Ozark Highland Center in Springdale.
Little Rock investment banker Warren Stevens is #4 on the Forbes list for Arkansas. Stephens Inc. was founded in 1933 by Stephen’s uncle Witt, and in 1970 he took over Walmart’s initial public offering. Stephens became CEO of an investment bank in 2006. The Arkansas course was named to his 100 best courses list in America, according to Golf Digest.
Coming in at No. 5 on the Arkansas Forbes 400 list is Barbara Tyson, who has a net worth of $3 billion. Tyson inherited her Foods stake when her husband Randall died in 1986. Since 1988, she has served on the board of directors of a company that produces about 20% of America’s beef, pork and chicken, Forbes reports. In 2002 she retired as Vice President of Tyson Foods and is now a consultant for the company.
