On Thursday night, the town of Frederikstead was lit up purple for the 2022 Silent Procession and Gathering of the Women’s Union of St. Croix, Take Back the Night. About 100 people gathered at Frederiksted’s fish market and marched to the clock tower on the waterfront.
“No one is a victim or survivor of domestic violence. “Whether or not we do, we know victims of domestic violence,” said Shelby Gudley, executive director of Legal Services VI.

There was a poignant moment when a list of about 59 names was called out one by one as volunteers placed the shoes of lost victims of domestic violence at the bottom of the steps of the clock tower.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Women’s Union of St. Croix has had a variety of activities throughout the month. Get the latest information on our Facebook page.
