Gloversville — The Fulton County Historical Society will receive $25,000 annually from the New York State Council for the Arts (NYSCA) for the next three years.
Funds from the grant will be used to cover a portion of the officers’ salaries, according to Fulton County Historical Society Executive Director Samantha Hall Saladino.
“This is really exciting for us. It is strengthening us and allowing us to continue doing the work we set out to do. I think one thing is really strengthening for the community as well. We want everyone to come and participate in our programs,” Hall Saladino Told.
Hall-Saladino explained that he was hired in 2019 after the museum completed a three-year strategic plan.
“I am the first paid full-time Executive Director of the Fulton County Museum,” says Hall Saladino. “They basically started this position to lead the museum on the strategic plan they created.”
The grant application included questions about the organization, information about the activities and programs the organization offers, and details about its activities during the pandemic, Hall Saladino explained.
She said the museum offers a variety of programs and activities.
“During the pandemic, we started a hands-on history series at home that took place online, but we were able to translate that into a hands-on history series for children at the museum,” said Hall. Saladino said, “We run four programs each summer that focus on different parts of the collection and encourage children to familiarize themselves with the museum’s exhibits.”
NYSCA is awarding $90 million to thousands of statewide artists and organizations beginning in Spring 2022.
“On behalf of the entire council, I congratulate the Fulton County Historical Society on receiving this grant,” NYSCA President Katherine Nichols said in a statement. Artistic organizations are essential, leading the tourism economy across the state and revitalizing sectors such as hospitality, transportation and Main Street.
NYSCA Executive Director Mara Manus thanked Gov. Kathy Hochul and the State Legislature for investing $240 million to support arts organizations in New York.
“New York state arts organizations such as the Fulton County Historical Society are cornerstones of a vibrant arts economy,” said NYSCA Executive Director Mara Manus in a statement. “We are grateful for the unwavering dedication of artworkers across the state as important drivers of our health and vitality.”
