A GoFundMe campaign was set up for the family of undergraduate student Misrach Ewunetie at Princeton University. The money will cover funeral expenses, family travel expenses, and an independent autopsy.
The campaign has raised over $71,000 as of 11:30 am on Tuesday, October 25, less than 24 hours after the GoFundMe launched.
“On Thursday, October 22nd, our beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Mithrak, was found missing on the campus of Princeton University for nearly a week. There are no words that can sum up the grief and grief that such an event has brought upon Mislach’s family. Losing her is just heartbreak,” reads a GoFundMe post by organizer Nate Tesfaye.
Tesfaye was a close friend of the Ewunetie family and attended Ohio State University with one of Misrach Ewunetie’s brothers.
“Beyond her impeccable character, Misrach was brilliant. And despite her amazing natural abilities, she never rested. Princeton, her high school valedictorian, not only accepted her application for admission, but also awarded Mizrak a full scholarship, where she majored in sociology and minored in computer science. ,” Tesfaye wrote. “Nothing can replace the beautiful person we lost. Mizrak will be missed by her loving family, her friends and everyone who knew her.”
Around 1 p.m. Thursday, facility staff found Ewunetie’s body behind a tennis court on the south side of the university campus near Faculty Road. The Mercer County Attorney’s Office issued a statement Thursday afternoon shortly thereafter, saying, “With no obvious signs of injury, her death does not appear to be suspicious or criminal in nature.” Other belongings were found with the body. An autopsy was performed by the Middlesex County Coroner’s Office on Friday. Toxicology results may take several weeks.
Ewunetie, a third-grader from Cleveland, Ohio, went missing in the early hours of Friday, October 14th. Her family reached out to the Princeton University Department of Public Safety on Sunday after being unable to contact her over the weekend.
“Due to her sudden death and the strange circumstances surrounding her death, we would like to inform family, friends, and anyone who knew her story of the costs associated with the funeral, an independent autopsy, and significant travel. We ask that you support Misrach’s family by supporting ,” Tesfaye wrote. on the GoFundMe page. “The support you can provide will ease the burden on Mislach’s family as they endure this tragedy.”
