With thousands of cybersecurity attacks occurring across the Caribbean every day, the government of Barbados is taking steps to protect digital data.
Innovation, Science and Smart Technology Minister Davidson Ishmael said many of these attacks were designed just to “make noise”, but it was important to protect the system.
”. . . as we develop as a country and as a government, we will continue to strengthen our ability to protect a variety of critical assets. We already have several systems in place with several layers of security to protect critical government assets and government infrastructure,” he said.
The ultimate goal is to build one seamless system across ministries.
“One ministry or agency runs one set of systems in one way, and another department does it in its own way with another set of systems. We are trying to coordinate a lot so that we can interact with each other when implementing security protocols, when implementing solutions in terms of cybersecurity, or fully protecting all of the various ministries, departments and agencies. This is to make it possible. (National News)
