NC FAME – First in Flight chapter kicks off with four local companies

Jamestown, North Carolina (January 31, 2023) – Guildford Technical Community College (GTCC) today announced a partnership with the North Carolina Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (NC FAME) program. The FAME program is designed for those interested in pursuing a career in his STEM-related field of manufacturing, with the aim of providing students with the necessary skills for a rapidly evolving manufacturing environment. , offering a two-year debt-free associate degree.

North Carolina’s first NC FAME – The First in Flight chapter works with GTCC to educate students in a college environment while providing on-the-job training for one of four NC FAME sponsoring companies.

FAME was created by Toyota and moved to the manufacturing laboratory for national scale in 2019. Today, the Manufacturing Institute supports FAME USA as a Workforce Development and Education Partner of the National Association of Manufacturers. Over 400 corporate partners across 14 states. Since 2012, more than 1,500 students have graduated, more than half of them since his spring of 2020. The Fall 2022 enrollment class is the largest ever, bringing the total number of FAME students to approximately 1,000.

Recruitment is underway for the NC FAME – The First in Flight chapter to start Fall 2023. Interested students can submit an application at gtcc.edu/gtccfame/.

Students selected for the program work three days a week in paid employment with their sponsoring employer, and attend GTCC classes on the other two days. After 1,800 hours of on-the-job experience, 85% of her graduates are employed directly by their sponsoring company, and on average he earns 25% more than non-FAME graduates. FAME graduates can also transfer credits to her four-year college to pursue a variety of her STEM programs.
