Kathleen Olive calls the pieces “flower bombs,” but her brother-in-law, the artist Kieran Gordon, knows them by a different name. We call it nihilism.”
Gordon started his art career by studying sculpture, but now creates 3D paintings using special materials such as hand sanitizer gel and fluorescent inks.
Olive says that one day Gordon painted and painted with acrylic paint on plastic paper. [the paper] He found that they could be bonded to metal. Paper weighs about 50g, but it somehow holds up against metal. When he squats it they hold the line.
Of this particular flower bomb piece, he said, “I’m not going to sell it for all the money in the world. I love his work. I love painting and lines and I love that imagination.” ”
The work hangs in the hallway of the house Olive shares with her partner.
“We have a salon in our home and it’s part of Salon Hang. Visitors respond to that energy – it’s like no other. Change the angle and perspective and it’s like another painting.” My friend liked it so much that I brought it myself.”
Olive is an avid collector of her brother-in-law’s work. He has purchased each series Gordon has exhibited so far.
“I have a cloud that he made as well. He did the same technique with a cloud that appeared to be floating on the wall. It’s a lot of fun, it’s interesting how it interacts with the light, it captures the shadows in the crumpled part, it casts shadows and the clouds cast shadows as well – they create their own shadows on the wall.
