SCCL’s 5 MW floating solar power plant

India’s SCCL has commissioned its first floating solar power plant at the Singaleni Thermal Power Plant (STPS) in Jaipur, Telangana, India.
State-owned SCCL is installing a 15 MW (AC)/19.5 MW (DC) floating solar power plant on the STPS reservoir. In the first phase, 5 MW of floating solar capacity was commissioned. A second 10 MW phase is expected to be completed by the end of March.
The 5 MW(AC)/6.5 MW(DC) floating solar plant was implemented by Novus Green Energy Systems, headquartered in Hyderabad.
Anshuman Yenigalla, Managing Director of Novus Green, said:
Novus Green’s in-house team built a 5 MW floating PV plant. The solar panels were manufactured at our facility in India. Domestic supplier FloatVolt provided the floating board.
“The project faced several challenges, including designing and manufacturing a floating board that met all test criteria, and securing frameless glass-to-glass modules to the float board,” said Yenigalla. “The overall design has been vetted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), making it the first floating solar project to be vetted by an institution as distinguished as the IIT.”
