Apple announced today that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will come in a new “deep purple” hue. As a purple lover, I was intrigued. However, my day went downhill from there.
I’ve seen a video of this new “deep purple” in action and am confused.Video posted by tech genius Justin It shows a color-changing palette of charcoal, lavender, and periwinkle.

And I not only have my good taste to go on. quote a tweet Watching iJustine’s video shows us all squinting to see where Apple got “deep purple” from.
“Am I gaslighting?” said one person. “This is black.” another person said, “Looking for the purple part??” Me too, girl. Me too.
A better name would be ‘midnight violet’ or ‘charcoal eggplant’. (Apple, I charge a reasonable consulting fee.) I would choose “Space Purple” as the more accurate option.
We were even more confused when we picked up the phone at Apple Park. Our man on the ground, Stan Schroeder, said:

I see gray and lavender.
