It was supposed to be the theme song for an online talk show, but as soon as it was released on YouTube DJs took notice and Jammette Woman started playing it on the radio.
Gerelle Forbes, one of the song’s four vocalists, hosts a live talk show called 2 Jammettes every Sunday at 4pm on OURRadio.fm and the Digicel Go Loud app, along with second vocalist Tyker Phillip. I explained that I was hosting.
A third vocalist, singer Shannon Francois, is also a cast member and director. Also featured on the track is his Richard “Chromatics” Rajkumar, owner of OURRadio.fm.
2 Jammettes, which went public in September 2021, form part of the overarching Jammette brand co-developed by Forbes and Phillip as directors of their own media company, Sthenic22 Ltd.
After 42 episodes of Season 1, the duo was ready to launch Season 2 of 2 Jamet in September 2022, but they needed a theme song. Forbes and Phillip both have theater and media backgrounds, so they decided to use their skill sets to write a song related to Jamet’s character.
“Originally, the theme song was going to be the intro to the show, the verse and the chorus. It’s not the two. It’s all or nothing,” François said.
So the three women went to Roderick “Chuck” Gordon to help write it.
Forbes said they were in the recording studio when Xplicit Entertainment’s Mevon Soodeen encouraged them to do a full song. Additionally, they intended to put out a full song, and felt that if both Phillip and Forbes were film producers, they could also make a music video.
The video was posted on 2 Jammette’s YouTube channel at 3am on January 10th and Philip immediately began broadcasting it to his family, friends and colleagues. In a few hours, this video got his 400 views. A few hours later, views surpassed his 1,000 and by 2pm he was playing on next99.1 fm.
The next day, they heard it playing on Boom Champions 94.1 fm, and within 10 days the YouTube video had nearly 2,000 views. Two days after its release, they sent the song to a DJ.
“This song has a J’Ouvert vibe to it. And I just wanted to use it for a theme song, but I’m trying to teach with this Jamet brand. The best way to reach the masses is through frequencies/sounds.” And we had to be 100% committed because we have to pay tribute to the other experienced artists on the team who have fully supported and participated from the beginning.
She said Jamet Women have nothing to do with carnival and are just three characters who introduce themselves through song. It’s an anthem that tells a story of mischief.

They said they had planned to release the song in September to coincide with the start of season two of the show, but continued roadblocks delayed the project. It worked well because it contains references to history, to people’s changing understanding of what Jammet is.
Also, the fact that people are listening to music during carnival season is a good opportunity to play the song on the radio and teach people a lesson.
These lessons are part of what Sthenic22 Ltd does.
Forbes said: That means archiving, production and brand development.
“One of the products under Sthenic is the Jammette brand. We use the Jammette character to teach our culture and our heritage across a variety of media and platforms.”
The company also conducts teaching concerts and workshops with young people across the country, covering topics such as calypso, TT culture, traditions, hygiene, sex education, love, self-reliance, and the importance of eating and gathering. In this carnival, the two Jammets leave the studio and are “on the ground.” They attend festivals and concerts and have conversations with artists about their personal lives and non-musical topics. Forbes said carnival season brings riot and celebration, but also chaos and “a little disturbing” events.
“When I see kids walking down the street, doing what they want, people say, ‘Yeah! Don’t do that! Who are you talking to!?’ An old man who looks like this who wants to play chase him. And the adults around them see it and say nothing. There is no Jamet woman in this space to tell him to “take care”. Um, do you think you’re too old? Yes, it stinks!
Forbes told Sunday Newsday that the Jammettes brand will soon release a show featuring the company and its impact on the community.
They said they didn’t want to rush it because many people reacted badly to them using the word “Jamet”. They called her Jezebel and said, “I need prayer.”
Phillip says: That means a lot of focus on the content we produce on the show, the stories we tell, the people we invite and the conversations we have. ”
She said she likes them making people uncomfortable. It will make people pay attention and take some action.
François said she expects people to “stir some pots” because they just see the name and don’t actually hear the song. We expect to give, and we hope it will get people to take a hard look at themselves.
“We first hold up the mirror for ourselves, then we hold up the mirror for you.”
Forbes said Jamett’s music would be more after this experience, but it could be a different singer next time. and Jammet could be a vehicle for communicating that.
