Many times in life, it is.

Pick and choose a door and see what happens. The path may be good, it may be challenging, but you have made a decision and you must stick to it. Yet, like the new novel, in “Breakfast of Mr. Jonathan Carroll,” you made a different choice.

For years, Graham Patterson tried to make a career in stand-up comedy, but finally had to face the facts.That’s how he suddenly found himself single. Carolina waiting for the end. He had no intention of getting a tattoo, but he did. he just did

And it was beautiful too. It was the bumblebee among the frogs among the hawks among the lions. Like nesting Russian dolls. The colors were bright and crisp and damaged, but not by much. When he left the small town, he thought a tattoo would be a nice souvenir.

But then strange things started happening.

He saw a man who looked exactly like him at the rest stop. The man had Graham’s dream truck and the contents inside the cab were identical to what was in Graham’s car. he kills it outright. And, by sheer weirdness, Graham soon returned to North Carolina – to the tattoo parlor and tattoo artist who inked him.

That’s when Graham Patterson knew he had a choice.

The artist explained that the tattoo was ancient and imbued with power. Anyone who had it in their body could visit and try other life possibilities, but they could only stay in one life. I could have killed Graham 2 or Graham 3. And the deal was valid for a limited time only.

Reading “Mr. Breakfast” is like being in a rainstorm with butterflies.

Each flap in this storyline descends gently, but it’s not long before it’s wiped out. And I don’t know exactly what happened or if it will come back. It’s ephemeral, glorious, graceful, and sometimes it flies over your head.

It’s easy to want to grab. Author Carol’s story is here, there, and everywhere at the same time. It’s understandable that you need immediate sensations, but don’t try too hard. There is no fluff in this story, so half the fun of reading this novel is in the imagery and narrative detail. The other half is at the dawn of the assumption that we are all faced with a choice.

You can’t miss the humor in this book, so be careful. Or longing. Or the real beauty of prose. If you pay attention, “Mr. Breakfast” is the book to choose.
