Modern applications are much more complex than they appear. While an individual is looking at her website or smartphone app, in the background, a vast ecosystem of infrastructure and applications must be interconnected to make this software work. Today, these connections are created by operations teams who must follow costly, time-consuming and laborious processes. That’s where NetMaker comes in.
“We created Netmaker because we had to. There was this gap between what we could do with cloud computing and what we could do with networking. We had to build it ourselves,” said the CEO. Alex Faisli.
Netmaker allows applications to access each other directly and securely without going through a central gateway. This is done in an automated peer-to-peer virtual network in a client-server model. The server manages key, address, and peer discovery and sends this information to the client. This allows traffic to enter, exit, and move throughout the network with advanced routing operations.
Recent trends in hybrid cloud, edge computing, and IoT make this pattern necessary.
“Netmaker makes it easy to abstract the physical network so IT departments can create logical networks in minutes. Now we can put IoT devices using 5G in the same flat network with a controlled environment. I believe it will be a tool in every IT department’s kit next year.” Lucas Nelsona partner at Lytical Ventures.
Feiszli and Carns previously worked together building cloud software and led a team of multi-cloud platform engineers at IBM.During the pandemic, the duo moved to Asheville, North CarolinaThe town, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is known more for its craft breweries than its tech startup scene, but Feiszli and Carns have big plans to bring the cloud into Heaven.
Netmaker was released on GitHub in March 2021 and has seen rapid adoption. Over 1,200 organizations and individuals currently operate the platform. This traction brought Netmaker to the attention of his Y-Combinator, further fueling the company’s popularity. Starting in early 2022, active platform growth will average 32% month-over-month.
