The FTA 5180 is his short form factor 1U rackmount with an Intel Xeon D-1700 processor. Fronthaul is an important part of 5G O-RAN network infrastructure. O-RAN maintains network timing distribution as the preferred approach within the fronthaul network. Synchronization in the RAN is essential to increase network efficiency and meet challenging 5G use cases. Loose synchronization can have a serious negative impact on network KPIs. For example, lower throughput, lower connection success rate, lower handover success rate, etc.
FTA 5180 has proven ready for deployment as DU and CU in 5G fronthaul by passing PTP clock offset and wire bandwidth performance tests. The 5G downlink performance of FTA 5180 reached 1.51Gb/s, higher than the threshold. The IEEE 1588 PTP clock offset requirement to pass the test was less than 100ns between the PTP hardware clock server and the FTA 5180. The results show that the FTA 5180 has a significantly better measured average of 29.3ns. In short, the FTA 5180’s PTP performance is very accurate and the system clocks are synchronized.
