With more and more studies linking gas stoves to cancer and asthma in children, the impact of kitchen appliances on our health has received a lot of attention lately. But while the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently told consumers it wouldn’t ban gas appliances as a whole, the agency now warns against taking certain products out of the house. Last December, authorities first warned the public of a recall of ZLINE gas ranges over carbon monoxide concerns. Now the CPSC is telling consumers that more ovens are being recalled because of this. Read on to see if you purchased the affected item from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

The CPSC was the first to warn consumers of potential problems with ovens last month. In an alert on Dec. 29, the agency revealed that Nevada-based appliance company ZLINE Kitchen and Bath has recalled about 28,000 oven units. According to the CPSC, the recall “involves the oven compartment of his ZLINE gas ranges with model numbers RG30, RGS-30, RGB-30, RG36, RGS-36 and RGB-36.”
The affected ovens come in two sizes, 30″ and 36″, and are available in multiple finishes including Black Matte, Blue Gloss, Blue Matte, DuraSnow, Red Gloss, Red Matte, White Matte, and Stainless Steel. It was sold in a variety of door colors: black stainless steel and DuraSnow with a frosted steel finish,” the agency added in the warning.
The CPSC released another alert on January 26th to warn consumers of the new developments. ZLINE has just expanded its oven recall, according to a new alert. Now the company is also recalling its 48-inch gas range. “This recall extension includes the oven compartment of his ZLINE gas ranges, including model numbers RG48, RGS-48, and RGB-48,” the CPSC explains. The total number of recalled units is now about 30,000, including 28,000 of his ZLINE 30 and 36-inch gas ranges, which were first recalled in December 2022.
“The ZLINE logo is printed on the bottom of the door,” CPSC said, for details to identify the oven model. “The model number is printed on a label on the back of your range. For ranges purchased in 2020 or later, the model number is also printed on a label underneath the top right hand side of your oven door. is visible when is open.”

All affected ZLINE gas ranges are being recalled for the same reason: carbon monoxide (CO). As of January 26, ZLINE has received 44 reports of carbon monoxide emissions from oven compartments. In three of these cases, the consumer had to seek medical attention from the leak.
“At ZLINE, our number one priority has been (and remains) to keep you and your family safe,” the company wrote in its own online recall announcement. , that some gas-on-gas range oven components can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO) during use, posing a significant risk of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning. recognizing.”
The CPSC warns that carbon monoxide is also known as the “invisible killer.” “More than 150 people die each year in the United States from accidental CO poisoning other than fires associated with consumer products,” the agency said. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and confusion. “If carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected, get outside to fresh air and call 911 immediately,” he added.
The recalled gas ranges were on sale to consumers from February 2019 to December 2022, according to the CPSC. During this time, his two largest home improvement retailers in the United States, Lowe’s and Home Depot, sold products in stores nationwide and online. But ovens were also sold at Best Buy, The Range Hood Store stores, online, and online at Costco, Overstock, Build, and Wayfair. Prices at the time ranged from $2,300 to $6,900 for him.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled range of oven compartments until the oven compartment is repaired,” the CPSC said. “Consumers can continue to use their range tops unaffected by the issue. Contact ZLINE to receive free home repairs.”
