Over 300 students, parents and families attended the event
Bourne — More than 300 students, parents and supporters attended the Innovation Pathways Open House at Bourne High School on Tuesday, November 29.
The event highlighted the district’s programs that provide students with unique, comprehensive lessons and hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of fields and industries. Each of her 37 senior interns at the high school spoke to attendees about their internships and interacted with people about their interests and experiences so far.
“It was a great evening for senior interns and a great showcase for the Innovation Pathways program,” said Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou. I’ve heard many people say, “I wish we had done this when we were in high school.” This is a true testament to our mission here at Bourne to create a balanced and robust learning experience. I am learning life skills about how to behave in a work environment, how to be trustworthy and accountable, and how to develop skills that will help me in my job. future career. ”
Seniors have internships in and around Bourne, including Bourne Police Department, Bourne Fire Department, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Joint Base Cape Cod, Cape Cod Community College, and Bourne Public Schools.
Open to families and community members, the open house highlighted the district’s new innovation pathways in business/finance and environmental/life sciences, and also highlighted health sciences pathways planned for 2023. This included the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the high school’s new ambulance. Demonstrating simulators, his iMac Lab Business Suite, and the Sustainable Living Aquaponics Lab.
Students and families were able to explore the ambulance simulator and get hands-on with some medical training equipment. Some students hung out in his lounge area of the business suite, while others observed the plants being grown in the aquaponics lab.
“Everyone had a great time watching and hearing about all the great programs going on here at BHS,” said Principal Amy Cetner. “Career/Innovation Pathways Under her Coordinator Anne-Marie Strode’s tremendous dedication and leadership, we have been able to grow the Innovation Pathways program into something truly special.”
The evening concluded with a panel discussion on college and career readiness, including speakers from local businesses and institutions. Panelists are:
- Chris Hyldburg, founder and owner of Alpha One Flight Services
- Dr. Frank Scarano, Professor of Medicine and Laboratory Sciences, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
- Michael Ortiz, Dean of Enrollment Management and Chief Officer of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Massachusetts Maritime Academy
- Mrs. Jesse Clements, 6-12 Curriculum Director at Bourne Public Schools and newest member of the Innovation Pathways team
- Michael Sasso, Director of the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at Cape Cod Community College.
Panelists highlighted the benefits of Bourne High School Pathway education and made recommendations to students regarding course selection, college admissions, and employment skills development. Additionally, panelists described the many gateways available to students after high school.
Last week’s open house followed last month’s BHS showcase for grades 7 and 8, where students and families learned about the various courses and programming offered at the high school and met with students and staff.
