India’s leading telecom operator Reliance Jio is committed to deploying 5G SA (standalone). It’s a bold move from Jio as 5G SA’s device ecosystem is less mature and broader than Airtel’s 5G NSA (non-standalone) deployment. But with hundreds of millions of customers using his Jio’s network services, OEMs have no choice but to roll out his 5G SA support for smartphones in India.

Jio 5G SA support added to Nothing Phone 1 with latest update
Nothing Phone 1 gets the latest Nothing OS 1.1.5 update with the September 2022 Android security patch. With this update, Nothin Phone 1 will also start supporting his 5G network on his Jio. Flipkart currently does not have Phone 1 available for prospective buyers. Reliance Jio’s 5G SA network will be supported by more devices in the coming weeks. These are the 5G bands that Nothing Phone 1 supports – 5G NR: Bands n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n77, n78.
Reliance Jio’s 5G SA network is now available in four Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi. Users are randomly invited by Jio to try out the 5G network and provide feedback. To be able to use Jio’s 5G network services, customers will have to recharge at least with the telco’s Rs 239 plan. More cities will receive 5G service from Jio in the near future.
