Three men were arrested Friday after they were allegedly shot dead over rent, court records show.
Peter Baraj, 59 years old. Joshua James Walls, 19 years old. Adrian Luis Gomez, 25, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 32-year-old Christopher Michael Vargas. Walls and Balraj are each being held on his $200,000 bail, while Gomez is being held on his $225,000 bail.
On December 30, San Antonio police were called to Block 3200 on Nantucket Drive and found Vargas dead in his residence with a gunshot wound to the hip. According to the affidavit supporting his arrest, he was surrounded in blood and police found a knife and used shell casings near his body.
Witnesses told police that Vargas was renting a bedroom from Balaji and was two months behind on the rent.

Police learned someone at the residence called 911 on Dec. 18 for a disturbance involving a gun. , one man asked another man to put his gun away. .

The arrest affidavit did not account for the 12-day gap between the 911 call and the time police went to the Nantucket Drive residence and found Vargas dead.
When questioned by police after the fatal shooting, Balraj said Vargas had stolen property from him. is.

The text on the wall said Balaji and Gomez would go to the Nantucket Drive residence on Dec. 18 to “handle it out,” the affidavit said.
Walls told police that when he and Gomez confronted Vargas on December 30, Gomez had a firearm and shot Vargas. Walls said Balraj offered them the money to help collect the rent.
Balaji later told police he believed he knew Gomez had a gun and intended to threaten Vargas with it, but did not shoot him.
