A Russian billionaire has died in a helicopter crash near the French-Italian border, marking the latest sudden death for a cryptocurrency figure.
According to multiple reports, Forex Club founder and Libertex Group president Vyacheslav Taran, 53, was the only passenger in a helicopter that crashed in Villefranche-sur-Mer this weekend.
“The Libertex Group is deeply saddened by the death of its co-founder and chairman of the board, Vyacheslav Taran, in a helicopter crash,” said a statement.
Local reports said the Taran was en route to Monaco on an Airbus H130 in Lucerne, Switzerland, when it crashed.
France Blue radio network reported that both Taran and the helicopter’s 35-year-old French pilot were dead.
His death was confirmed Monday by the Russian embassy in Paris.
The helicopter crash is still under investigation, and authorities have not indicated possible foul play. France Bleu reported that a second passenger was scheduled to board an Airbus to Monaco but canceled at the last minute.
Taran’s death is just the latest of several in the cryptocurrency world.
