Seven million 5G-IoT devices connected to satellite constellation plan to stop livestock disease and cattle theft

Traditional livestock management using cellular IoT ear tag devices predicts and controls the spread of epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), tracks the location of animals, prevents cattle theft, and protects both farmers and livestock. We were able to increase the safety of Nevertheless, most farmers around the world cannot manage their livestock this way. Because most of the land has no cell coverage and his own network his protocol makes buying and maintaining his 5G devices out of reach for many of them.

With unrestricted coverage and low maintenance costs, the possibilities are vast.

Sateliot, the first satellite constellation to offer 5G standard connectivity from space, and Streamline, a leading livestock management company, have joined forces to solve these hurdles and improve livestock management services for farmers around the world. I’m here.

In 2023, South African company Streamline will deploy 400,000 cellular 5G NB-IoT livestock devices that can seamlessly connect to both cellular towers and the Sateliot constellation. Streamline’s goal for the next few years is to reach his 7 million devices worldwide. In 2019, this number was just 40,000.

Streamline serves 7.95 million livestock in the South African market. Their expertise in livestock management devices has traditionally relied on traditional cellular connectivity. However, Sateliot’s non-terrestrial network provides the ability to act as cell towers in space and operate in areas not covered by Streamline’s 5G NB-IoT devices. Satellite’s solution is more efficient and affordable for both Streamline and end users than traditional satellite operators’ proprietary solutions.

In addition, Streamline’s service, supported by Satellite, does not require cellular coverage, has low device-to-satellite communication costs, and starts at US$1 per device per month, facilitating expansive growth and Enables operations in uncovered areas. Gives farmers more flexibility.

Sateliot CEO Jaume Sanpera commented:

“Streamline has a state-of-the-art product, ear tag model STR-TG103/4, which enables farmers to ensure cows in good condition. -Using the NB IoT satellite constellation to provide support and coverage to larger areas and even large farms without terrestrial networks in need of coverage that only we can provide. This is the IoT market is showing unstoppable growth, proving it is accelerating far faster than any other technology industry.

Supported by AWS

Due to the scale of the project and the need for collaborative projects among multiple ecosystem players, the virtual core of Satellite and Streamline services is being built by AWS, a leading cloud service provider.

About Satellite:
Sateliot is launching the first LEO satellite constellation based on the 5G standard, enabling commercial unmodified cellular IoT devices to connect from space. For the first time in history, cellular terrestrial communications seamlessly merges with satellite connectivity, and Sateliot is leading this revolution. Sateliot’s cost-effective technology and the potential to connect to satellites using commercial low-cost (less than $5) devices opens up endless possibilities for the untapped market of remote, large-scale IoT. It is in line with Sateliot’s mission to bring and enable IoT connectivity. Anyone can use it anywhere.

About Streamline:

Streamline is the first company to deploy satellite cattle and sheep collar trackers in Africa. After spending his 30 years in the business of researching and developing and designing custom tracking systems based on client needs, the company now tracks over 8,000 vehicles and transfers the data collected to partners to create its own displayed on the platform. Streamline has deployed hundreds of tracking collars in Africa and the US and designed his NB-IoT module, the smallest used for a variety of wildlife such as vultures.
