A consortium led by Ingine, an eco-friendly wave power social venture backed by SK innovation and Ingine’s UK subsidiary Ingine Wave Energy Systems (IWES), has been selected for Enterprise Technology, Energy Catalyst Round 9 (ECR9). Innovation support program by Innovate UK. Innovate UK is the UK’s National Innovation Agency.
SK Innovation announced on January 30 that Injin was selected for ECR9 at the end of last year and received £150,000 in support.
With this support, the Ingine consortium will focus on the feasibility study and initial power plant design of a wave energy project in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
The Ingine Consortium consists of Ingine, IWES, the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), a Scottish University in the United Kingdom, and PT Indonesia Power (PT IP), an Indonesian power company.
With ECR9’s help, Ingine plans to complete the wave power system offshore Indonesia within 2-3 years, with a megawatt (MW) project in 5 years.
