Construction is underway on the Portsmouth-Shawnee State University Clicker Innovation Hub (KIH). Once complete, KIH will provide a unique opportunity not only for students on campus, but also for community members in the surrounding area.
SSU KIH Director David Kilroy said:
KIH, which began construction in 2020 on its multi-story facility, faced construction delays during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, like many other projects around the world.
“When I started working from home, it was convenient, but it meant a lot of construction delays,” says Kilroy. “We can’t finish step 5 before we finish step 1. There’s not much we can do.”
Overcoming these obstacles, the $4.5 million renovation of the 27,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed later this year, opening its doors and resources to students and the community soon. The facility’s mission is to help businesses and entrepreneurs grow and bring their ideas to tomorrow’s markets.
“We are also a bridge between campus and community,” said Kilroy. “We want to make sure we deliver the pipeline from start to finish.”
KIH supports student business ideas and provides students with opportunities to connect with local experts and leaders. SSU students have full access to KIH resources and programs, and support from start to finish in their entrepreneurial journey.
