What started as a part-time venture has become a full-time small business for Kevin Stewart. Nearly 20 years ago, he took the plunge and left his eight-year job to dedicate all his working hours to his service at Stewart’s Mobile.
Stewart’s Mobile Services is a family owned business providing medium and heavy duty diesel truck repairs and heavy trailer repairs. Other services include onsite fleet maintenance, spot truck/yard jockey repairs and rentals, light engine repairs, truck and trailer tuning, and diesel engine cleaning with modern exhaust systems.
His wife, co-owner and office manager Joanna told BladenOnline: Until we rented our first store in 2006, our motto was “service on the spot.” Currently, there are 3 he bay shops, 4 service vehicles and 8 employees. ”
When it all started almost 20 years ago, there really wasn’t a set “goal” to achieve. However, Kevin saw demand for this work and began offering these services as a side business to earn extra income. “Our goal for the future is to keep growing the business with the hope that the now 16-year-old and his 17-year-old son can stay in business,” said the owner.
All small businesses face challenges. Kevin and Joanna said: We have learned a lot over the years through trial and error. However, the biggest challenge at the moment is finding qualified technicians. ”
When asked how Stewart’s Mobile Services contributes to the community, the owner explained: We are helping our community watch, working in power company trucks after hours during the massive blackouts immediately after Hurricane Florence, donating to local fundraiser, and supporting many local schools. ”
