Montgomery, Alabama (WSFA) – Juniors in Montgomery participate in an essay contest through the Rotary Club of Montgomery and give back the proceeds of their wins to their communities.

GW Carver Elementary Arts & School student Terecko Moore won a $50 prize for writing about service beyond self. He has put his own sentence into action, announcing that he will donate funds to help those affected by the deadly tornado that recently hit his community of Flatwood in Montgomery County.

When Rotary vice president Wes Littlefield spoke with Moore’s mother, Moore was amazed at how inspiring the boy was. Children killed in Flatwood, Cedarius Tell was actually a second year student at Moore’s school.

The Rotary club presented Moore with a check Monday during a meeting at the RSA Activity Center in downtown Montgomery. Moore’s generosity has led the Rotary Board of Directors to donate to tornado relief efforts.

In addition to Moore’s income from the content of his essays, the Rotary club gave teachers $250 checks to purchase school supplies for the classroom. Moore and his classmates also throw pizza at his party.
