This product, which was sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s, is being recalled after 24 finger losses

It goes without saying that power tools and other machinery sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s require proper handling and care. Protective gear is required when using a band saw or electric sander. Both are not readily handed to the inexperienced. However, while some products sold in these stores may not seem so dangerous, they pose surprising risks to consumers, even if they think they are taking the necessary precautions. Find out which items are being recalled following reports of the loss of 24 fingers.

Recently, some products have led to injury.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), as its name suggests, was established to protect our customers. Recalls are typically announced every Thursday, but last week his agency confirmed that Empower Brands had recalled a particular of his Black + Decker garment steamers that suffered 32 burns. In two of his cases, he had second-degree burns, caused by hot water gushing or leaking from the steamer while in use.

The CPSC also announced in September that Murphy beds made by Cyme Tech had been poached from Walmart, Amazon and other online furniture retailers. The recall notice said the bed could “break or break away from the wall and fall onto someone nearby,” and there have already been 62 reports of fractures, bruises, cuts and concussions.

Now, the CPSC has issued another warning to consumers, adding that they must proceed with extreme caution to protect their hands.

On November 10, the CPSC issued a recall notice for Generac and DR 6500 Watt and DR 6500 Watt and 8000 Watt Portable Generators (with gasoline-powered engines). According to CPSC, affected products include his Generac generators with unit type numbers XT8000E XT8000EFI, GP6500, GP6500E, GP8000E and HomeLink 6500E portable generators. The recalled DR models include the PRO 6500M and PRO 6500E Portable Generators. A full list of model and serial numbers can be found in the recall notice and can be matched against the ones printed on the generator label or on his website for his Generac.

A total of 37 serious injuries were reported.

If there is a power outage due to bad weather or other problems, you are already worried about your safety and well-being. The last thing you want to worry about is that emergency generators pose another hazard. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with Generac models. According to the CPSC, “Unlocked handles can trap the consumer’s fingers in the generator frame when the generator is moved, posing a hazard of cutting or crushing fingers.”

To date, the company has received 37 reports of injuries, 24 of which lead to finger amputations and 5 to finger fractures.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time these generators have been mentioned with safety issues. They were recalled in July 2021. At the time, eight injuries were reported, including seven cut fingers and one crushed finger.

Stop using the generator and contact Generac.

The recall applies to generators sold between June 2013 and June 2021, and generators purchased between July 29, 2021 and November 3, 2022. According to a recent recall notice, the latter was equipped with a full cover steering wheel guard.

As with last year, consumers will be asked to “immediately discontinue use” of generators unless locking pins are properly inserted to secure the handle before and after it is moved. In the meantime, you can contact Generac for a free repair kit with spacers that “move the steering wheel off the frame and eliminate his pinch point.” You can contact the company Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or online at 844-242-3493.

Those who responded to the first recall received a steering wheel guard kit and are now on a list to receive additional steering wheel spacers. According to Generac, these consumers will automatically receive the kit and do not need to take any additional steps.
