Planning a trip to Singapore is a costly endeavor. A comprehensive travel insurance plan helps protect your investment. It also ensures that you meet Singapore’s travel requirements.

All travelers entering Singapore are required to have travel insurance with Covid-19 medical coverage.

Travel insurance comparison site Squaremouth spokesperson Sarah McWilliams-Guerra said, “We need medical coverage of at least $30,000 for COVID-19 related treatment and hospitalization. Squaremouth also requires at least $100,000. of emergency evacuation insurance is recommended.

What to Look for in Singapore Travel Insurance

Here are the factors to look for if you want the best travel insurance for your trip to Singapore.

Trip Cancellation Insurance: No Singapore Street Eats

Trip Cancellation Insurance provides financial protection should you have to cancel your trip to Lion City.

“Travel Cancellation Cover may provide you with the benefit of non-refundable travel expenses such as air tickets, hotel/resort costs, tours, etc., if you must cancel your trip for a covered reason.” says Scott Adamski. AIG Travel.

Most standard travel insurance plans will reimburse you for prepaid, non-refundable costs if you cancel your trip for any of the following reasons:

  • Death of a travel companion or immediate family member
  • Injuries or illnesses of customers, companions, or close relatives
  • serious family emergency
  • sudden unemployment
  • Unscheduled court appearances or jury duty
  • Strikes, weather events or natural disasters that cancel booked travel services

Not all reasons for canceling a trip are reimbursed by standard travel insurance plans. For example, if your daughter’s piano recital is rescheduled and overlaps with her vacation, travel cancellation coverage won’t help much.

“Cancellation for any reason” insurance

If you cancel your trip for any reason and want the flexibility to get your insurance reimbursed, consider adding ‘cancellation for any reason’ coverage. This optional coverage allows you to cancel your trip for any reason up to 48 hours before your scheduled departure time.

That flexibility comes at a price. Expect prices for travel insurance plans to increase by about 50%. However, if you cancel and meet all the requirements stated in the policy, you can generally recover 75% of the non-refundable upfront cost.

Travel Delay Insurance: Jewel Changi Airport Awaits

You may need a connecting flight to visit Singapore. Therefore, travel delay insurance could prove worthwhile, especially given the increasing frequency of flight delays and cancellations.

For example, if you’re flying from Chicago to Singapore and your connecting flight in Istanbul is delayed by 18 hours, travel delay insurance can help. This insurance will reimburse you for hotel stays, taxis to your hotel, meals and toiletries you may need before your next flight.

Be sure to keep all receipts. You must present them when making your claim.

The Travel Delay Benefit can also cover travel costs you would have had to lose due to your late arrival to Singapore, if the delay was caused by any of the issues listed in the policy. So, if a delay prevents you from using your prepaid private transportation or sunset dinner cruise, you can make a claim to recoup these losses.

Similarly, “travel delays can be an important factor in your travel insurance plan when transiting through Singapore on a long trip to Asia,” says Lisa Cheng, spokeswoman for travel insurance company World Nomads. .

“A delayed flight or other transportation can leave you stranded overnight in a city-state.” She says you can get a refund.

Things to keep in mind: Most travel insurance plans have a waiting period of 3 to 12 hours before benefits begin. Please read the policy carefully to understand the time parameters.

Travel Interruption Insurance: ByBye Gardens by the Bay

Imagine you are strolling through Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and admiring the beautiful displays. A neighbor called to tell you about the fire that destroyed your house. If you want to cut your trip short to deal with catastrophic problems after returning home, you can take advantage of travel interruption insurance to cover the cost of returning home.

As part of this coverage, the travel agency can arrange return travel plans and cover the cost of a last-minute one-way economy ticket.

Also, if you have prepaid for hotel and catamaran travel, you may request a refund for non-refundable or unused travel costs that are forfeited due to early departure.

It is important to understand that not all reasons for early return are covered by the plan’s travel interruption benefit.

If you do not anticipate the cost of dining and entertainment in Singapore and are on a tight budget, or want to cut your trip short and return home early, a travel insurance plan will not help with the associated costs.

Travel accident/sickness medical insurance

US-based health insurance may cover you in-state, but once you leave, that coverage is often left behind. This is especially true if you are a Medicare senior. .

If you become ill or injured while on vacation, transportation to emergency facilities may be expensive. Travel medical insurance can help ease the financial burden.

For example, if you collide with another cyclist while on a bike tour in Singapore and need x-rays and stitches, your travel insurance will cover treatment and necessary medications up to the policy limit.

Medical evacuation insurance for failed adventures

While some medical emergencies can be handled by local hospitals and doctors, this is not always the case. If you need to evacuate to a suitable place of care, or possibly return to the United States, emergency medical evacuation insurance can cover the costs of getting there.

Singapore’s remote island of Sentosa offers beaches, ziplines, water sports and thrilling three-wheeled luge cart rides. If you are injured while ziplining and need to be transported by ambulance for medical treatment, your travel insurance plan will cover the cost of the ambulance.

Baggage insurance and personal belongings coverage

No matter where you travel, there is always the chance that your luggage can be misplaced or lost. Baggage insurance provides some reimbursement for your belongings, up to policy limits.

A comprehensive travel insurance policy protects your belongings beyond your checked baggage. If you misplace your camera or your phone is stolen while enjoying the festival, you can rely on the policy to get a monetary refund.

If your luggage is lost or stolen, be sure to report it as lost from the airline, or to your tour guide, hotel, or local police. You will need this document when making a claim.

Make sure to pack medicines, travel documents, passports, keys, medical equipment, jewelry and cash in your carry-on.

Be aware that most travel insurance plans have per-item limits, maximum coverage caps, and exclusions for certain items such as artwork, designer watches, and heirloom jewelry. Anything with strong sentimental value is best left safely at home. Also, in case of loss or theft, cash refunds are not possible.
