The third Thursday in October, known across Canada as Purple Thursday, is a day to raise awareness about the intersection of brain injury and interpersonal violence.
To aid women fleeing domestic violence, the Royal Purple Society of Canada in Bassano donated 40 handbags full of personal items to the Wheatland Crisis Society and Brooks Shelter.
Lyne Sage, former president of the Bassano Royal Purple Society, explained that women fleeing dangerous situations may have nothing.
“Sometimes when women go there[the shelter]they don’t have anything. Most of the time they run away so when they get there they don’t have anything. she said.
Throughout the year, Sage explained that the Bassano-based society supports the community in many ways, and Purple Thursday is just one of the many activities they support.
“We donate to all sorts of things. We donate to the health center in Bassano, the library. We even donated to a volleyball tournament. At Bassano they know we do and now they come to us if they need any help. is a community support group that donates to
Sage said the Royal Purple were also in Strathmore, but are no longer there. But she wants it back in our community.
“There has been some talk of trying to bring back Royal Purple in Strathmore.
