A long-time retail employee captured the attention of thousands after she revealed the main reason she couldn’t quit the job she’d been working for since college.
In a viral video posted on Nov. 4, TikTok user @spillame lamented the vicious cycle commonly associated with retail, and how his experience interacting with customers helps qualify him for employment elsewhere. argued that it should.

With the holiday season approaching, the rush to find seasonal retail employees continues.
And according to recent forecasts by the National Retail Federation, U.S. retailers are expected to take on an additional 450,000 to 600,000 employees in the coming weeks.
That said, while retailers are scrambling to keep up with demand during the holiday season, those who have spent so much time on display and serving customers are stuck.
A resume with extensive retail experience is attractive to retail employers, but the same is not true for all employers. As a result, employees looking to make the leap outside of retail often find themselves stuck in the same cycle @spillame described.
