More than a decade ago, Daniel Franks suggested tidying up Sewickley’s quaint streets for a playgroup at a local moms club. Her friend Christine Bourdeau also admitted to feeling an “itch” to do something within the community.

“I felt the gifts and decorations needed a fresh twist,” she says.
Over the years, House15143 has become a home design destination thanks to its curated collection of unique host gifts, local artwork, and exclusive candle lines. Friends also brought vintage items into the store, attracting customers seeking timeless pieces and seasonal decorations.
“Curating vintage and mixing old and new is something we’re really proud of,” says Franks.
Bourdeau and Franks, who are now raising teenagers and sending their children to college, say they are both ready to pursue their next venture. In January, House15143 closed permanently.
“I just wanted to stop for a moment and go travel and have some private time and really explore other opportunities for each of us, both personally and professionally,” Franks said. increase.
Like Bordeaux, Franks said his favorite thing about owning a store was watching his children grow up between the aisles, and House 15143 was designed solely as a destination for home decor. He added that it was special because it also served as a cozy space for the family.
“It was a great place for them to work here and see their mother doing something in the community,” says Franks. “Having that anchor locally has always been a great experience.”
Packing the last boxes in the store, the women reflected on House15143’s success and how much they appreciate their supporters.
“Whether it’s Christmas time or we’re in town visiting relatives, we really appreciate the people who come to visit us from all over the world,” Franks says. I’ve made family friends and made many great connections through this door.”
