MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Bureau of Customs and Customs (BOC) found P10.36 million of ketamine hidden in lifestyle and sports products during inspections at the Port of Clark in Pampanga, customs officials said Thursday. said to
BOC officials were tipped off by the National Bureau of Investigation and urged authorities to perform an X-ray scan of the cargo.
“BOC found illegal drugs including ‘fitness expanders, massage twisters, trimmers, push-up bars and yoga blocks’ shipped from Putrajaya, Malaysia on January 30.
The scans revealed suspicious images, BOC said. The agency found the drug in “three boxes of Acupoint Massage Twisters with eight clear plastic pouches containing a white powdery substance weighing 2,072 grams total.”
A sample brought to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) headquarters for laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of ketamine.
Authorities tracked the shipment to its address and arrested the foreigner.
“On Jan. 31, a joint Port of Clark and PDEA force conducted a controlled delivery operation to a consignee’s address in Pasig City, leading to the arrest of a Chinese claimant,” the BOC said.
Port officials have also issued warrants for the seizure and detention of cargo for violations of Republic Act No. 10863 or numerous sections of the Customs Administration Modernization Act. The Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
