Ruth V. Aguilera, Distinguished Professor at the D’Amore McKim School of Business, was honored Wednesday at a Northeast event celebrating academic support and excellence.
Aguilera is officially invested as the owner of the Darla and Fred Brodsky Trustee Professor of Global Business. The entrepreneurially-minded Mr. and Mrs. Brodsky celebrated their 30th anniversary from Northeast Rector Joseph E. Aoun in furthering the university’s global mission while Aguilera served as one of his key supporters. He was cited as a visionary who supported D’Amore McKim’s International Business Program (BSIB). .

“In many ways you are a pioneer,” Aoun told Darla and Fred Brodsky at a ceremony in the East Village. “You showed us the way. You emphasized the need for universities to go global. And that’s what we did.”
Aguilera earned the honorary chair for his commitment to global business education and research, said David Madigan, dean and senior vice president of academic affairs at Northeastern University. He praised Aguilera for being ranked in a rare hierarchy of professors who have “made an extraordinary impact on the lives of their students, conducted amazingly impactful research, and truly changed the world.”
The endowed professorship is the latest honor bestowed upon Aguilera, who was recently made a Fellow of the Academy of Management (AOM), the world’s largest association of management scholars.

Along with fellowships at the Strategic Management Society (SMS) and the Academy of International Business (AIB), Aguilera earned membership in the “Triple Crown” of International Business Scholars.
After receiving a medallion from Aoun that alluded to her new status, Aguilera thanked Brodsky with repeated references to Fred Brodsky’s autobiography, The Accidental Entrepreneur: How I Succeeded. expressed. After earning a degree in Northeast Business Administration in 1966, Brodsky traveled the world learning the universal business lessons that enable success in real estate investment and development.
“Your commitment to fostering and fostering international business research—and your early recognition of how important that commitment would be 30 years ago—is consistent with my own,” Aguilera told Brodskys. Told.
She quoted three eternal lessons from Fred Brodsky’s book.

The event also helped mark the 100th anniversary of the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.

The changing dynamics of international business were elaborated on in a panel discussion moderated by Nicholas Athanassiou, Emeritus Associate Professor of International Business and Strategy.
The panel discussion featured Harry Lane, Emeritus Professor of International Business and first holder of the Brodsky Professorship. Ravi Sarathy, Professor of International Business and Strategy and current Head of BSIB; Her BSIB student Katrin Bouss from Germany, who will graduate in December. and Aguilera.
Aguilera spoke about the global changes caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine and the international trend towards businesses focused on the needs of people and the planet.
“President Aoun has really chartered us by unlocking experiential learning,” said Aguilera, noting that the international curriculum is focused on the humanities, geopolitical realities, digitization, big data, and more. He added that it is constantly developing around factors.
Aoun said BSIB’s mission is crucial at a time when the international business community is at a crossroads.
“When the concept of globalization is under attack, when the world is moving towards regionalization, people are asking, ‘Do you want to continue investing in globalization? “And the answer is, ‘More than ever. More than ever.'”

Aoun gave Darla and Fred Brodsky a special gift.
“It’s a beautiful compass because you travel all over the world,” said Aoun, who joked. “The compass always points northeast wherever you go.”
