Cancun International Airport has earned over 50 spots on the list of the world’s busiest airports for international travelers. The airport ranked his 10th in total international passenger traffic this year as Mexico’s Caribbean gears up for a record-breaking winter travel season.

According to a report published by Airports Council International, “Passenger traffic rankings reflect a positive recovery trend with the busiest airports returning to the top 10 busiest airports. That’s good news for Cancun International Airport, the backbone of Mexico’s booming tourism industry in the Caribbean.

With forecasts marking a record-breaking winter travel season, authorities recently decided to trial a new electronic passport check scheme at Cancun airport. The new simplified immigration is currently only available to travelers from the United States and Canada, but may be expanded to citizens of other countries in the future. 3 has an electronic check-in kiosk to further expedite the departure process.
Under this mechanism, travelers will be able to enter the region more easily than ever before by simply scanning their boarding pass and passport at the new electronic gates. The measure follows the repeal of his mandatory FMM travel form in August. The move is part of a broader effort by authorities to reduce bureaucracy and reduce long wait times at immigration. This year, some arriving travelers have had to wait up to two hours in long immigration and customs lines.
