Double Dubs, a crappy food truck startup, has made its way into Craig, taking over the vendor booths at Warehouse Food Hall and bringing a full menu of flavors to Craig.

The grand opening of Weitzel’s Wings, aka Double Dubs, Wednesday, February 1, was founded in Laramie, Wyoming in 2013 and is the first fixed location for the mobile franchise, which operates food trucks in Laramie, Rock Springs and Green River.

Local owners Josh Barker, Dane Barrett, and Jared Augustin said they had everything in place to purchase a Double Dubs franchise license and open a Craig store. When a space became available at a warehouse in the former Thai restaurant, the three jumped at the chance.

“We were actually having chicken wings for my birthday when we heard about the opening,” said Barrett, who spent his youth in Craig with family living in the area.

“I’m really excited to join Craig,” said Barrett. “I have many good memories here. It’s a nice town and I’m happy to be here.”

The menu features 12 wings sauces and several dry rubs, and wings come in orders of 6 to 48 pieces. For sides, Double Dubs serves tater tots, French fries, vegetables, and sauces.

Those who like chicken wings can mix the salt and rub to match the sauce, and Barrett said you can get something completely different each day.

Double Dubs founder Trent Weitzel won “Rookie of the Year” for bringing his food truck to the 2020 Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival in Buffalo, NY. Weitzel said in an interview that the company has evolved into his franchise of food trucks from which he cooks chicken wings in his Fry Daddy deep fryer in his backyard.

The Double Dubs food truck is also featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with host Guy Fieri. Franchise creators came to Craig to help locals set up their stores. The company was looking to move to containers, so we were excited to see Craig’s place come together.

Double Dubs Warehouse’s shipping containers have a new army green paint job that matches the branding colors of the original food trucks.

This place is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 9pm. The shop will offer Super Bowl wings and will also be open on Sundays during football season. However, during the off-season, Double Dubs is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The plan is to acquire a food truck in addition to a warehouse location so Double Dubs can serve the entire Yampa Valley and Steamboat Springs area. The owner said he would eventually offer pre-orders of wings as well.

“We try to make getting good chicken wings as easy as possible,” says Barrett.

Warehouse owner Amanda Montgomery said the Food Hall’s “indoor food truck model” has worked well for giving new vendors a place to start building and building their brand with customers. .

“We want people to be able to do everything behind the scenes,” Montgomery said Wednesday.

Warehouses have changed their ordering model so customers can now order directly at each vendor booth. Changes can be difficult at first, says Montgomery, but having people order in person allows vendors to talk to customers and answer questions about menu options and dietary preferences.

Warehouse is also looking for someone to rent the Warehouse Coffee Co. space and run a coffee shop. The space is set up to serve hot coffee and tea drinks, but could also become a small bakery or sell deli subs and other prepared foods.

“If you know someone who wants to run a coffee shop,” Montgomery said. “We really need someone to come and be consistently here to build it.”
