The owner of the Crawfordsville-based Route 32 Auction and Indy Advertising Show spent years driving down back roads and scouring the countryside for vintage billboards and other memorabilia before turning around. According to the publication, the Parkers set up the auction house as a way to buy and sell their antique collection, and business took off. Over the past two years, the couple has held over 30 auctions for her.
“It turned out to be more than we wanted to manage. We didn’t expect it,” said Kevin Parker.
The family-owned auction company specializes in antique billboards, general store memorabilia, and old-fashioned gas pumps and gas station signs. (known in the industry as Petroliana)
They have moved away from their day-to-day involvement, but they have not left the industry. These Indiana “pickers” plan to continue collecting antiques.
“This puts a spark back in our own collecting interests. Jill has a full-size country store with a barber shop and soda fountain. She loves antique advertising,” says Kevin. Baker said.
According to AuctionCentral News, Bakers will continue to manage the Indy Ad Show during its first year under Morphy ownership. They also represent new owners at major exhibitions.
