Friday is Veterans Day.
It’s time to pay tribute to those who have served in our military.

A special group of veterans is commemorated at the local bridge dedication.

“I wanted to do it for my brothers and sisters who weren’t here anymore. It looked lonely there. I needed an autograph. And that’s one hell of a sign!” Clifford Gray says:

He participated in the dedication of a sign on the bridge over Meander Reservoir on Mahoning Avenue between North Jackson and Austintown.

The Purple Heart is awarded to military personnel injured or killed as a result of enemy action while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Leo Connelly Jr. of The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 606 said it took a lot of work to bring this sign to life on the bridge. But it’s worth it, he says.

“Ninety-nine percent have not gone to war or been in the military. It is our duty to inform our brothers and sisters who have lost their love or bled for their education that the ninety-nine percent know the price of freedom.” ‘ said Connery Jr.

The county commissioner says we owe these veterans, literally everything.

Carol Rimedio Righetti said: “It’s a solemn day, but a happy day to honor them.

“Every time you pass this sign, say a little prayer for those who couldn’t be here. This is for them!” Added Connery Jr.
