High-profile attorney Mary Ellen Tarpel LaFonde and former BC Children and Youth Representative is no longer employed by the University of British Columbia.
The university did not say why it cut ties with the former judge, except that she was no longer a professor at Allard Law School as of December 16.
Turpel-Lafond served as director of the History and Dialogue Center at UBC Indian Residential School until June.

Her history was put under the microscope last fall after a series of reports by the CBC cast doubt on both her claims of Indigenous ancestry and her claims of academic achievement.
Global News reached out to Turpel-Lafond for comment.
In a statement posted to her Twitter account in October, she said she was of “Cree, Scottish and English heritage, goes by the name aki-kwe, and is an active member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation. My qualifications.” is under scrutiny at the highest level in the country.”
Kelly Wolfe, chief of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation confirmed that Turpel-Lafond was a member of the nation For nearly 30 years, she said she was part of that family.
At the time, UBC issued a statement to The Globe and Mail newspaper in support of Tarpel Lafond, saying that “Indigenous identity was not the criterion” for his position at the university.
The BC Indian Chiefs Coalition also issued a statement of support at the time, calling her “a passionate, ethical and groundbreaking advocate for indigenous peoples for decades.”

“She has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to human rights, justice and reconciliation.
Turpel-Lafond has been a prominent public figure in BC and across Canada for decades in the field of Indigenous human rights and constitutional law.
In 2020 she wrote a report In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous Racism and Discrimination in BC Healthcare.
